Climate Change

CHAPTER 15

Global Warming

“”Out of the south comes the storm, And out of the north the cold. “From the breath of God ice is made, And the expanse of the waters is frozen. “Also with moisture He loads the thick cloud; He disperses the cloud of His lightning. “And it changes direction, turning around by His guidance, That it may do whatever He commands it On the face of the inhabited earth. “Whether for correction, or for His world, Or for lovingkindness, He causes it to happen.” (Job 37:9-13 NAS)

Weather or Not

Weather is part of every news report, every day. In spite of the fact that we can in our modern society, remain indoors, the weather will affect our lives. For those who work outdoors, the effect is personal and can determine many of the directions and actions of their day. All of us are affected by weather, if not directly then indirectly, for it affects food production, construction, transportation and almost everything in one way or another. When we consider the occasional extreme weather, it can be much more dramatic. In minutes, it can alter the course of your life or end it.

Of course, those who are pushing the “global warming” agenda will tell you that it is not about the weather, but the change in climate; climatology versus meteorology. They say the reason for this is because it is hard to promote their agenda through fear, when the evidence of climate change is remote from where people live. Fear of global warming is hard to promote when people are experiencing severe cold from an arctic blast; however, when we are experiencing a record hot spell, then it is all about the weather and global warming.

Since the time of the flood, in Noah’s day, mankind has been dealing with climate change. Books could be written on just the little we know about the effects climate change has had on mankind throughout history. Generally speaking, climate change usually happens gradually enough that people can adjust to the changes. Weather, on the other hand, can be dramatic. Even with our modern technology, it cannot be accurately predicted. In reality, climate and weather cannot be separated, for they are part of a very complex global system, marvelously designed to make the planet a habitable place for life. There is a great variety of climatic conditions that exist around the globe. Each of these climates has differing average weather patterns and differing extreme weather events. Geologic evidence reveals that in the past, climatic conditions may have been much different than we have today.

I am simply giving you this brief summary to show you how ridiculous the assertions of the global warming alarmists are. They claim that our present warming trend is due to human activity. They claim that in the future, human activity will dramatically alter the climate, adversely making the environment increasingly hostile. They claim that the major driver of the warming climate is the increase of CO2 in the atmosphere. The bottom line is that man-made climate change is going to destroy the planet.

The Agenda

According to climate alarmists, we have reached a tipping point with the accumulation of CO2 in the atmosphere.  We must unite the entire population to combat this threat. Their claim is that if we do not act now, it will soon be too late and the planet is doomed. The questions we have to ask are: Why do they think that they are right? What if they are right? What is their proposed solution? What are the effects of their solution?

This whole issue of “global warming” is very complex, and would take a lot of time to fully explore. I believe that an in-depth study would reveal this issue as a hoax. That does not mean that there are not a multitude of people sincerely promoting this idea because they are genuinely concerned. As with any other issue, good intentions do not overrule the truth. What I am attempting here is to view this issue from the high moral ground. From this perspective, the facts look different than they do from a lower vantage point. If we just look at a few simple facts, we will realize that there are agendas driving this issue. It simply is not about the facts that can be verified.

So what do we know? CO2 levels are increasing over the last few years since we have been able to accurately measure them. CO2 is a greenhouse gas, and is essential for plant growth and life, in general, on this planet. Over the last 100 years, our overall global temperature has raised approximately 1.5 degrees. Temperature in the last 20 years has remained almost the same. Over this period, the sea levels continue to rise steadily every year. Population has grown, in my lifetime, from 2.5 billion to 6.5 billion. People contribute to the excess CO2 in our atmosphere in a multitude of ways.

The rise in temperature over the last 100 years has actually made most climates more hospitable, not less. What seems more amazing is that our increased population, and our burning of fossil fuels has not warmed our planet more than it has. So if life on earth is better than it was 100 years ago, what is the fear about? It is all based upon speculation about how the climate will change, and the effects it will have. These projections are mainly based upon computer models. In essence, these fears are based upon prophesies made by scientists, not actual facts. There are a lot of assumptions and conjecture involved in these computer models. Accurate measurements of atmospheric conditions are relatively new. Conditions from the past are based largely upon interpretation of evidence left behind. In addition to this, we know that none of the models presented so far have proven to be accurate in their predictions. In fact, all of their predictions have failed miserably.

There is no logical reason why we, as a country, should dramatically alter our way of life based simply upon the conjecture and climate models that have proven to be inaccurate. The promotion of this theory does fit well with the agendas of many different groups whose intent is to promote their own wealth and power. If we are willing to look at all of history, we will see that there have been attempts to create a one-world government since the time of the building of the city and tower of Babel. The behind-the-scenes agenda has always been Satan’s attempt to unite the world under his direction, in opposition to God. Global warming provides a platform to bring nations together under the direction of one voice. Until now, God has always thwarted that agenda, and provided opportunity for choice through the division of nations.

The Other Agenda

Coming back to the high moral ground we have to view this issue from the revealed Word of God. God created this world and it is marvelously designed. Climate is much more complex than even our modern technology has observed. The very idea that mankind is going to be able to maintain control of the temperature of this planet, simply through curtailing the burning of fossil fuels, is absurd. Even simple math will render this concept to be ridiculous without removing most of the seven billion people. If God had not built marvelous intricacies into the model of this planet and its climate, we would have destroyed ourselves long ago. This planet was made as a home for people. God gave this planet to man to govern. It does well when we follow God’s precepts.

It is the acknowledgement of God, and faith in His Word, that created the real division between God’s faithful, and the prophets of “Global Warming”. It is only logical that people, who have been convinced that the world and all we know is a series of random accidents, would be easily driven to fear by the slightest deviation in temperature. For those of us who believe the voice of the Creator, our faith is in God and His Word. Our attention needs to be on those things that really move the forces for good or evil.  It is amazing that human activity has not affected the earth’s temperature more than it has. This is because of God’s marvelous design.

We could go in depth on this subject, and consider the many factors that are involved. We could delve into the historical knowledge that we do have, and shed much light on this subject; however, the conclusion would essentially be the same. God alone has the knowledge, wisdom and power to control the climate of this earth. Man’s effect on the climate is contingent upon whether or not he is willing to live in harmony with God’s eternal law.

We do know that in the past, climate and weather have been affected by human activity. The greatest disruption in climate is still affecting our planet. It was because of man’s sin that God judged the earth and all that was in it, by the flood in Noah’s day. We also know from God’s Word that the climate, in Israel, has been altered at times because of the sins of His people. I do not know how much the weather and climates are going to be affected in our near future.  I do know, from God’s Word, that there are going to be distresses of many different kinds. I also know that it is not because we are burning fossil fuels, but because people are violating the moral laws of God.

There is a need to sound the warning, for judgment is coming. There are true prophets who prophesy from a proven model. There is a solution that provides for salvation. As Christians, we also have an agenda, and that is the salvation of souls. God may be willing to damage the planet to save souls. There are those who are willing to destroy souls to save the planet.
